There’s one trend that seems to be dividing the fashion world at the moment - the crop top. As part of the 80s revival, the top we thought had gone out with the Spice Girls is back, and slowly infiltrating the high street.

Topshop have got a great range of crop tops. The Sequin Zebra Crop Vest Top on the left would be a perfect statement top paired with jeans, and the loose fitting means you won’t need to put in too many hours at the gym. The racer back adds detail and makes it nice and airy for hot days, and animal prints and motifs have been huge this summer, as have sequins. It costs ￡16.

Personally I reckon if you’ve got the stomach for it (literally), then give it a go. If you’re looking to fully the 80s look then team it with acid or stone wash skinny jeans and heels for a quirky night time look, or if you want a twist on a summer day look, then try it will a floaty skirt. A crop top would also work well over a body con vest dress to add a splash of colour or texture, or with a body con skirt.

If you want to keep it traditional, then there’s the Crop Crew Tee. It’s a classic square T-Shirt shape, just slightly shorter. You can wear this with high waisted jeans or shorts if you don’t fancy bearing all. It’s available in black, as in the picture, or white, nude or light grey.

Both are originally from Hong Kong, though grew up in America. They are currently students in finance and economics (important subjects if you’re a shopaholic), though one is based in New York (Barney’s Girl) and one in London (Harrod’s Girl). They started the blog back in 2004 because, in their own inimitably succinct words, they “wanted to have a place where trends and fashion from the runway and on celebrities can easily be understood and translated in down to earth, youthful street fashion”. This has developed into a series of posts debating the relative merits of various designers, shops and discounts in a sometimes charming, sometimes annoying way.

Their enthusiasm is contagious, even if many of the posts do rotate in a never-ending, dog-chasing-tail, “should I buy this; should I buy that” stream of consciousness. They also seem to know their market, which is late teen to early twenties, and which they identify through their endless quests for a bargain, passion for design and lack of snobbery about non-designer, more affordable brands such as Kookai. The blog is punctuated by a series of snazzy fashion shots (ooh, those Laboutins), and there are some great links to other fashion blogs and essential e-zines.

Watch out for the posts reflecting on Our Tough Financial times, which give a break from the runway chat and serve to remind us that these are frivolous fashionistas with brains

Born in Arles in 1951, Christian Lacroix studied Art History at the University of Montpellier
He designed for Pucci for three years, from 2002 until 2005
He diversified into jeans, perfume, childrenswear, lingerie, menswear couture, ready-to-wear and homeware

Christian Lacroix has had a double bite of the fashion cake. The Eighties belonged to him and by 2008, he was back again. Originally he intended to become a museum curator - in fact, he is a fashion impresario, who is widely credited with single-handedly saving couture, wooing the media with his wildly photogenic designs.

In 1987 his fashion house was launched and the reviews were ecstatic: “Vive Lacroix! There’s been nothing like it in 25 years,” sang The Sunday Times, while Vogue labelled him “Paris’ most talked about designer”. An extravagant use of detail and bird-of-paradise theatricality generated the mood of the moment. Minimalism was usurped by his eccentricity. The following year he launched his ready-to-wear.

Christian Lacroix’s return to couture in 2007 was rapturously received. He has stores in New York, Paris, Monaco, Dallas, Bahrain - and he is increasingly working in theatre design as well as fashion. Something of a philosopher, his words: “We all look for lost time,” sum up his return to form.

Lorna Berni is a Fashion Stylist who styles fashion and lifestyle shoots. Her work is inspiring and I love her quirky style!I have the chance to interview Lorna Berni.Following is the things she tells me.

I’m a typical multi-tasking individual – I am a wardrobe stylist for commercial and advertising photographers, I’m also a personal stylist and shopper for individual clients and I run my own retail website business selling luxury accessories from brands such as Gucci and Prada. I love what I do – and I particularly love adding my own personal touch to my styling work – my outfits are stylish yet individual – I don’t wish to create a look that will be seen on everyone else. There are enough fashion clones out there but its a fashionable individual that is a stylish one.

I got into styling naturally from having my own business and word of mouth. I pride myself on being punctual and polite! I have been very fortunate with the photographers and clients I have worked with.

I love strong clean lines and high end glamour. I’d like to say my work is polished with a quirky detail.

I can tell you what makes a bad stylist and that is someone who copies looks straight out of a shop window – thats not styling, thats advertising. There is no thought process to that, but its seen everywhere! There are fashion clones everywhere you look and it can be depressing that there’s a lack of stylish individuality.
Someone who can create style can be a good fashion stylist. It takes vision and understanding of the elements you are working with from fabrics, silhouettes, body shapes and current trends.

Following on from our summer bags post a couple of days ago, here’s some more arm candy to flash around this summer.

Legendary handbag designer Anya Hindmarch has just launched three new tote bags for summer. The cream canvas bag as tan leather straps and an inside pocket. There are three different line drawing designs - a coral ‘Laundry Print’ which shows a pair of socks hanging on a washing line, a green ‘Shopping Print’, which feature toothpaste, chocolate, and a wine bottle and a ‘Meat and Poultry’ print which has three chickens on it.

These spacious casual bags are perfect for the weekends, and add a stylish touch to a jeans and top combo. There’s loads of space for all your bag essentials, and it would easily double up as a beach bag.

And the best part is they’re cheap - a bargain for an Anya Hindmarch bag! They’re available from Net A Porter now.

I’m proud to the mind of the designers who think and conceptualize the use of letters as well as any other symbols in creating a wonderful logos for the designer clothing brands.

They’re not Chinese characters, just some famous fashion logos placed together. It is interesting to discover luxury labels implement some kind of “overlapping” or “interlocking” methods when creating their iconic trademarks, using the first letter of their names.

“CC” stands for Coco Chanel while “GG” means Guccio Gucci. Ever wonder who did it first? Basing from the time they founded their companies, Chanel seems to be the first one to do this. Chanel was founded 1909, while Gucci started theirs 1921. Some say the Chanel logo was not trademarked until during the first openings of Chanel stores (maybe 1909?). On the other hand, the interlocking double G logo of Gucci was used in the mid-60s.

Little did we know, the use of letters or initials as company logo was started by the French luxury fashion and leather goods company, Louis Vuitton. Way back in 1888, the “LV” logo and the “Damier Canvas” pattern was made. Reversing the letters LV maybe didn’t looked good, so probably the best thing to do is to overlap the “L” and the “V”. What do you think?
